Russia & Brazil: A Plot? 🤨

So, Russia and Brazil are having a little pow-wow, are they? Apparently, they’re trying to become the new power couple of… international organizations. Like, they’re coordinating outfits for the UN, BRICS, and G20. It’s very “matching sweaters at a diplomatic picnic” kind of vibe.

Russia & Brazil Team Up to “Reshape” Things (Whatever That Means)

BRICS (which, let’s be real, sounds like a construction company), the United Nations (still a thing!), and the G20 (a lot of talking, very little actual fixing) were all hot topics when Russia and Brazil got together. They want to “enhance cooperation.” Which I’m pretty sure is diplomatic speak for “let’s agree on what to disagree about.” It’s like a very formal passive-aggressive friendship.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira had a chat at the UN General Assembly. It was documented by Tass on Sept 27th, because apparently these things need official documentation. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they talked about “deepening the Russian-Brazilian strategic partnership.” Translation: “We’re becoming *really* good friends. Beware, world.” And then they added:

On the international agenda, the ministers discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in multilateral forums, primarily in the UN, BRICS, which Brazil chairs this year, and the G20.

BRICS now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Indonesia. That’s a lot of countries! It’s basically a global potluck where everyone brings a strongly held opinion. 🌍

They both want to, and I quote, “influence the direction of multilateral institutions.” Which, let’s be honest, is code for “We want things to go *our* way.” Brazil gets to play host with BRICS in 2025, so they get to pick the music and the snacks. Meanwhile Russia is trying to, shall we say, *temper* Western influence. It’s a whole thing. A very complex, geopolitical, probably-involving-a-lot-of-meetings thing. 🙄 Honestly, I need a nap.
