In a world where the line between man and machine grows ever fainter, Anthropic’s latest marvel-the Claude Mythos Preview-has thrust itself into the limelight, emerging as the first artificial intelligence to undertake a complete simulated corporate network attack. This news comes courtesy of the esteemed UK’s AI Security Institute (AISI), which has now placed us all under the watchful eye of our new algorithmic overlords.
The revelations, unveiled just days after the grand announcement on April 7, suggest that the capabilities of AI in cyber realms have soared to dizzying heights, demanding immediate vigilance from security teams across the globe. If you thought your job was secure, think again!
What Is Claude Mythos?
On that fateful day of April 7, Anthropic introduced its Claude Mythos Preview model. However, rather than unleashing it upon the masses, they chose a more cautious path-granting limited access to select security research firms. One can only imagine the clandestine whispers of “We must prepare!” echoing through their hallowed halls.
“This model performs strongly across the board, but it is strikingly capable at computer security tasks. In response, we have launched Project Glasswing, an initiative to utilize Mythos Preview in safeguarding our most critical software and preparing the industry for the practices we will need to adopt to stay one step ahead of cyberattackers,” the proclamation declared.

This is monumental… Anthropic just unveiled a model so potent they fear releasing it to the public due to the chaos it might unleash. 😨
Claude Mythos Preview has unearthed thousands of zero-day exploits lurking within every significant operating system and web browser…
The numbers are difficult to…

Such developments have already sent ripples through both tech and policy circles. According to a Reuters report, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell convened an urgent meeting with major bank CEOs, alerting them to potential cyber risks associated with this technological behemoth. Nothing like a little panic to spice up a Tuesday afternoon!
How Claude Mythos Preview Performed
The AISI, a diligent research body within the UK government’s Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, undertook rigorous cyber evaluations of Anthropic’s Claude Mythos Preview to scrutinize its cybersecurity prowess. It sounds serious, doesn’t it?
Initially, they embarked on capture-the-flag (CTF) evaluations, where systems must sniff out and exploit vulnerabilities to retrieve coveted hidden “flags.” Our prodigious Mythos achieved a staggering 73% success rate on expert-level tasks-an accomplishment that had eluded any model prior to April 2025. Bravo, dear robot!
Furthermore, AISI crafted a 32-step corporate network attack simulation dubbed “The Last Ones” (TLO). Human security professionals would require roughly 20 hours to navigate its intricacies, yet Mythos Preview gallantly triumphed, completing the entire simulation in 3 out of 10 attempts. On average, it navigated 22 of the 32 attack steps, while its closest competitor, Claude Opus 4.6, floundered with a mere 16 steps. Talk about a race we didn’t know we were in!
“Mythos Preview’s success on one cyber range indicates that it is at least capable of autonomously attacking small, weakly defended, and vulnerable enterprise systems where access to a network has been gained. However, our ranges bear significant differences from real-world environments that render them easier targets,” the team cautiously noted.
Anthropic’s own red team testing revealed that Claude Mythos Preview can identify and exploit zero-day vulnerabilities across all major operating systems and leading web browsers-if only the user gives it a nudge in the right direction. Some may call it lazy; we prefer to think of it as “selectively efficient.”
“We’re constrained in what we can disclose here. Over 99% of the vulnerabilities we’ve uncovered remain unpatched, so it would be irresponsible for us to divulge particulars about them,” the team remarked, perhaps with a hint of dramatic flair.
AISI wisely advised organizations to prioritize foundational cybersecurity measures. These include regular patching, stringent access controls, diligent security configuration hardening, and comprehensive logging. After all, who wouldn’t want to sleep better at night knowing their digital fortress is well-maintained?
