Aanchal Malhotra, a researcher at RippleX, is cautioning that the time to get ready for the challenges posed by quantum computing is quickly running out.
According to U.Today, Ripple plans to upgrade the XRP Ledger (XRPL) to be secure against future quantum computing threats by 2028. This will happen in several stages.

It was previously widely believed that quantum computing wouldn’t immediately endanger the world’s financial systems.
For a long time, experts thought cracking the 256-bit encryption (ECDSA) used by cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRPL would need an incredibly powerful computer with millions of qubits. But recently, a major tech company demonstrated that’s not true – it can actually be done with fewer than 500,000 qubits.
Ripple’s four-phase roadmap
As reported by U.Today, Ripple has teamed up with Project Eleven to pull off a sequenced migration.
If current encryption methods are unexpectedly broken, the network is designed to automatically switch to more secure, quantum-resistant technology as a safeguard.
The next step is actively trying out new solutions, and Ripple is currently testing encryption methods that are designed to be secure even against future quantum computers, as recommended by NIST.
In the third stage, the network will begin combining potential new, quantum-resistant signature methods with the current elliptic curve signatures.
The last phase will focus on transiting the XRPL to native PQC-based signatures at scale.
