Ron Baron, who leads the investment firm Baron Capital, thinks a company planning to go public soon has the potential to deliver very high returns in the future.
During a recent CNBC interview, Baron predicted that SpaceX, the aerospace and AI company that filed for an IPO in April, is poised for significant growth and could eventually become the world’s most valuable company.
The speaker estimates that when the company goes public, its initial valuation will likely be between $1.5 and $1.75 trillion, possibly even higher. However, they believe that within the next 10 to 15 years, the company could be worth anywhere from $10 to $30 trillion, and even that estimate might be conservative.
SpaceX’s continued success, according to Baron, hinges on the leadership and forward-thinking goals of its founder and CEO, Elon Musk.
The key to this company’s success is Elon Musk. He pioneered the idea of reusable rockets – something no one had ever done before. Other rocket companies weren’t interested because making rockets reusable would reduce the demand for new ones, and they didn’t want to risk losing business.
As an analyst, I’ve often heard this project dismissed as impossible. The common refrain was that no one had seriously attempted it, and those who did failed. It’s precisely that history of perceived impossibility, and the lack of successful attempts, that ultimately created the opportunity for Starlink to emerge. It wasn’t a lack of technical feasibility, but a lack of persistent effort that paved the way.
