According to the Financial Times, Metaplanet’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, has declared that the company is on a mission to accumulate as much Bitcoin as humanly possible 💸. One can almost hear the faint sound of a “Bitcoin gold rush” in the distance, as Metaplanet aims to build a BTC position so formidable that it becomes the stuff of legends.

But, of course, one must always keep the bank manager happy 🤑. Gerovich has revealed that he views Bitcoin as the new securities or government bonds – a clever way to secure financing without having to part with one’s precious BTC. “We’ll secure cash that can be used to acquire profitable, cash-generating businesses,” he said with a sly smile.

And what’s on the shopping list, you ask? Well, Metaplanet is on the hunt for businesses that align with its strategy, including a possible acquisition of a Japanese digital bank 🏦. Because, darling, who doesn’t want to offer better digital banking services than the competition?

As for Metaplanet’s Bitcoin obsession, it’s a love affair that’s been brewing since 2024 💕. The company has been buying up BTC like it’s going out of style, and has even issued bonds to raise funds for more. On July 7, it announced the purchase of an additional 2,205 BTC for a cool $238.7 million, bringing its total holdings to 15,555 BTC – a whopping $1.7 billion.

This makes Metaplanet the fifth-largest corporate Bitcoin holder, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Strategy, MARA, Twenty One, and Riot Platforms 🤝. And if that’s not enough, the company has set its sights on joining the exclusive BTC “1% club” by acquiring up to 210,000 BTC – a staggering $23 billion – by the end of 2027 🚀.
