Interactive Brokers, a worldwide online brokerage, now lets eligible individual investors in Europe trade cryptocurrencies.

Interactive Brokers Ireland Limited, a regulated provider of crypto services, will now allow trading of 11 popular cryptocurrencies. This means investors can buy and sell crypto alongside their existing stocks, options, and other investments – all on a single platform, simplifying investment management.

Cryptocurrencies now available

The company now allows investors to buy and sell popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Ripple, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Chainlink, Cardano, Dogecoin, Avalanche, and Sui.

Investors can use any of the available assets through our platform, which includes options like Trader Workstation, IBKR Desktop, Client Portal, IBKR Mobile, and IBKR GlobalTrader. You can trade anytime, 24/7.

Partnership with Zerohash to secure transactions

As a researcher following fintech developments, I’ve learned that Interactive Brokers is now working with ZeroHash. ZeroHash provides the infrastructure needed for handling digital assets and stablecoins, and this partnership allows Interactive Brokers to securely process cryptocurrency transactions for a potentially huge audience – around 450 million people across the European Economic Area.

Interactive Brokers CEO Milan Galik explained that their clients want the ability to invest in cryptocurrencies without sacrificing the familiar tools, pricing, and reliability they expect from Interactive Brokers. Offering crypto alongside stocks and other investments on one platform allows clients to better manage their overall portfolio, including risk, how easily they can buy and sell, and their available capital.

The company has been working to integrate stablecoins for its customers. It recently began letting investors deposit funds using stablecoins, with a focus on USDC. They also plan to add support for other stablecoins in the future, such as RLUSD from Ripple and PYUSD from PayPal.

Broader context

This new service solves problems for European investors who use cryptocurrency, including the hassle of using many different apps, confusing fees, and worries about security.

This new feature lets investors handle all their investments – both traditional and digital – in one place, simplifying how they monitor and plan their portfolios.
