Tucker Carlson, known for his unique blend of skepticism and flair, recently made a bold claim: Bitcoin (BTC) was birthed in the secretive, shadowy halls of the CIA. Yes, you read that right. The mystery surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto’s elusive identity is apparently the tell-tale sign that the cryptocurrency was engineered by the fine folks at Langley. Because, of course, what else could explain a trillion-dollar asset with an anonymous creator? 🤔
Speaking at a Turning Point USA event on October 22, Carlson declared with confidence that he would rather gnaw off his own arm than invest in Bitcoin. Why? Well, according to him, it’s a tool crafted by financial elites to exercise ultimate control over society. And you thought your bank charging you fees was bad. Buckle up, folks, it gets better.
The “CIA Created Bitcoin” Theory-Bigger Than Ever
In a passionate speech, Carlson confessed that while he liked the idea of financial freedom that Bitcoin might represent (who doesn’t?), the reality is a grim “scam” orchestrated by a nefarious “coalition of beneficiaries.” The “beneficiaries” in question? Well, they just so happen to be the same folks who love controlling your life and making you buy stuff you don’t need. It’s a conspiracy theory that would make a Bond villain jealous.
“I’m really afraid of a digital currency because that is totalitarian control,” he said, channeling his inner conspiracy theorist. “If you can punish people, if you can zero out their bank account and keep them from eating, you will have total obedience.”
But don’t think this is all doom and gloom-Carlson’s got a secret weapon: gold. Yes, the shiny, traditional metal. He buys gold because, as he says, “I don’t invest in things I don’t understand.” Fair enough, Tucker. We all know gold can’t be hacked by a 15-year-old in their basement. 🏅
“Nobody can explain to me who Satoshi was, the creator of Bitcoin, this mysterious guy who apparently died,” Carlson continued. “I grew up in DC, primarily in a government family, so, CIA,” he added. Well, that explains everything. Oh, the plot thickens…
While the “CIA made Bitcoin” theory isn’t new, Carlson’s recent remarks have resurrected it with a vengeance. This idea had already gained some traction back in 2020 when The Washington Post exposed how the CIA owned Swiss encryption firm Crypto AG and used it to spy on 120 countries. Ah, government secrets-don’t you love them?
As expected, the Bitcoin faithful weren’t having any of this. Within hours of Carlson’s speech airing, they took to X (formerly Twitter) to trash his theory like a bad political candidate. Strike CEO Jack Mallers, for one, didn’t mince words:
“If you think knowing who created Bitcoin matters, you don’t understand it. Bitcoin is open source. Nobody has special rights, and everyone can verify that.”
Meanwhile, Max Keiser, who’s been in Bitcoin longer than most people can remember, promptly dismissed the CIA angle as pure hogwash, pointing to the well-documented history of Bitcoin’s development. But it wasn’t all insults and rebuttals. Marty Bent, host of the Tales from the Crypt podcast, quipped:
“Even if the CIA did create Bitcoin (it didn’t), anyone can audit the code to see what it does. That’s all that matters.”
Still, some sympathetic souls agreed with Carlson’s broader fears about government control. Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Helius Labs, laughed off the CIA theory but did acknowledge Carlson’s very real concern about the potential for financial surveillance. Crypto could be evil-if you build it that way. 🎮
The Ongoing Mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto
The quest for the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is the internet’s favorite whodunit. Ever since Satoshi vanished in 2011, the search for clues has turned into a global game of “Where’s Waldo?” that even Sherlock Holmes would give up on. Last year, an HBO documentary suggested late cryptographer Len Sassaman could be Satoshi, while others pointed to Peter Todd. Of course, Todd emphatically denied it. It’s like the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” of cryptography.
In 2025, a UK judge officially debunked Craig Wright’s claims to be Satoshi. But that hasn’t stopped the internet sleuths. In fact, James Murphy, a crypto lawyer, is taking the legal route, suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for records that might reveal Satoshi’s true identity. Will he succeed? Stay tuned for the next season of “The Mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto.”
