Ethereum‘s Privacy: Coming Soon to a Blockchain Near You (and Not Just for Detectives)!
Paul Brody, the wise wizard of Ernst & Young and the self-proclaimed “Global Blockchain leader” (because apparently, that’s a thing), has predictions about Ethereum’s brave new world of privacy. Think of it as a game of hide-and-seek, but with a lot more zeros in your bank accounts and fewer awkward childhood memories.
Ethereum (ETH) privacy design got 2000x cheaper-Yes, You Read That Right! 🚀
Imagine a world where privacy transactions are not only cloak-and-dagger but also cheap enough to make your grandmother’s knitting club look extravagant. Modern privacy networks now process transactions so inexpensively they’d make a penny look like a fortune. The days of spending $100 in gas are as outdated as dial-up internet.
“I believe that 2026 will be the golden year for Ethereum privacy.” – Paul Brody, probably after a good night’s sleep or a very strong coffee.
Brody points out that Ernst & Young’s Nightfall platform currently spends a whole five cents ($0.05) to verify transactions-a stark contrast to the $100 it used to cost in ancient times (eight years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and gas fees were still a thing).
Other blockchain marvels like Aztec, COTI Network, and Miden are also racing to make zero-knowledge proofs so fast and cheap you’d think they have miniature turbochargers hidden inside.
And Brody insists that within the next year and a half, these technologies will be so cost-effective that you’ll be wondering why you ever bothered with banks or privacy policies in the first place. It’s going to be so next-level, even your grandma’s ledger might start to get nervous.
“The whole mathematics of zero knowledge have improved at an immense speed. I’m confident that within 18-24 months, even relatively complex transactions will be cost-efficient in high volumes for business users and consumers.” – Brody, possibly while sipping an invisibility cocktail.
This quantum leap in privacy tech will make permissioned blockchains look like they’re using paper and quill in comparison-because, let’s face it, they still leave a trail as obvious as a chicken crossing the road.
“Privacy and anonymity aren’t quite the same, folks”
Brody made it clear that these innovations aren’t about turning into digital ninjas or hiding from regulators-at least, not yet. It’s more about leveling the playing field and fighting unfair competition without a cloak of invisibility as thick as an elephant’s trunk.
“Nightfall, Aztec, and others are all testing their secrets in the digital sandbox, and 2026 looks to be the year they go mainstream-like, finally getting out of beta and into your wallet for both consumers and businesses.”
As previously reported, ETH’s privacy remains a hot topic-probably because everyone loves a bit of mystery, even in blockchain land.
And in April 2025, Ethereum’s very own Vitalik Buterin set the privacy roadmap on fire (metaphorically, of course), promising a future where both Layer 1 and Layer 2 upgrades will make snooping a lot harder and privacy much cooler.
