What to know:
- Bitcoin slipped about $100 to $77,351 late Friday morning after former President Donald Trump said he had halted a planned diplomatic trip tied to Iran talks.
- Trump canceled a trip by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who had been expected to travel to Pakistan for a new round of discussions involving Iran.
- The pullback in bitcoin was modest, suggesting traders saw it as a short-term geopolitical risk rather than a change in the broader market outlook, as they await further U.S. and Iranian statements and Trump’s scheduled speech at a crypto conference.
Bitcoin’s price dipped slightly late in the morning on the East Coast after President Trump indicated that planned diplomatic trips related to Iran negotiations would be canceled.
Bitcoin’s price fell sharply by around $100 to $77,351 around noon ET, wiping out a small increase it had seen earlier. This drop happened shortly after a Fox News reporter shared comments on X (formerly Twitter) from Donald Trump, in which he stated he had called off a trip planned by representatives Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
According to a recent post, Trump told his team they wouldn’t be traveling for long meetings anymore. He reportedly said they were preparing for an 18-hour flight, but he stopped them, stating that he and his team held all the leverage and others could contact them whenever needed. He emphasized they wouldn’t be taking any more lengthy trips just to have unproductive conversations.
David Witkoff and Robert Kushner were scheduled to visit Pakistan to continue negotiations with Iran. However, this trip was cancelled shortly after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed from Pakistan, which led to frustration about the possibility of talks happening soon.
From my analysis, while Bitcoin did experience a dip, it wasn’t a major sell-off. This tells me the market seems to be interpreting the recent news as a temporary issue, not a fundamental change in Bitcoin’s long-term prospects.
As a crypto investor, I’m keeping a close eye on what U.S. officials say next, especially regarding the situation with Iran. It feels like that could really move the markets. Plus, Trump’s scheduled to speak at a crypto conference in Palm Beach around noon Eastern, and I’m curious to see if he’ll address anything market-related or drop any hints about future regulation – that could be a big deal for us.
